The Drever is a long-bodied, short-legged scenthound with dropped ears and a short, dense coat. It is larger and more rectangular than a Dachshund, built to drive game toward the gun in Swedish woods.

A short-legged Swedish scent hound with a short coat and a trail voice; happiest in a house that can offer woods miles rather than city stillness.

The Drever, or Swedish Dachsbracke, is a Swedish scenthound used to drive deer and other game toward hunters. It was developed from the Westphalian Dachsbracke. The UKC classes it as a Scenthound.

Temperament

Drevers are typically friendly, noisy on a track, and determined once a scent is found. They are usually good house dogs if they get enough walking. They will follow a trail out of an unfenced yard.

Training

Train the recall early and use a long line. Scent will beat a weak recall.

Care and grooming

Wipe the short coat and clean the ears after work in cover. Keep this long-backed dog lean.

Shedding

Low to moderate.

Health

The breed is generally hardy. As with other long-backed hounds, watch for disc problems and do not let the dog jump off furniture.
