The Peruvian Inca Orchid is a sighthound-type dog that comes in hairless and coated varieties and in small, medium, and large sizes. Hairless dogs have smooth, warm skin; coated dogs have a short to medium coat. The ears are erect to semi-prick.

A hairless or coated sighthound who can live in an apartment; little coat work on the hairless, a soft voice, and a need for sweaters and safe sprints.

The Peruvian Inca Orchid, or Peruvian Hairless Dog, is a sighthound and companion from Peru. Hairless and coated puppies can appear in the same litter. The AKC lists the breed in FSS; the UKC classes it as a Sighthound & Pariah.

Temperament

These dogs are typically loyal to their household, reserved with strangers, and sensitive to cold. Hairless dogs seek warmth and do not like long spells in strong sun without protection.

Training

Be patient and consistent. They can be shy if they are not socialized.

Care and grooming

Hairless skin needs bathing, moisturizer, and sunscreen outdoors. Coated dogs need only a weekly brush.

Shedding

None on Hairless dogs; low on the coated variety.

Health

Hairless dogs may have dental crowding and dry or sun-sensitive skin. Keep the skin clean and do not overexpose it to sun or cold.
